Born in 1971 and settled in Belgium since 1990, Armel Roussel is a polymorphous French artist who confronts himself to staging as well as stage design, writing and performance. He also teaches (mainly at the INSAS since about ten years) and leads training courses in Belgium, France, Switzerland and, only recently, in Senegal.
He founded the company Utopia in 1996, re-named it Utopia 2 in 2002 and [e]utopia3 in 2010, when he was working at the Théâtre les Tanneurs as an associate artist. His productions have been created in Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal and France : Roberto Zucco 1996, Les Européens 1998, Armageddon je m'en fous (short form) 1999, Enterrer les Morts/Réparer les Vivants 2000, Notre besoin de consolation est impossible à rassasier 2002, Hamlet (version athée) 2004, Pop? 2005, And Bjork of course 2006, Fucking Boy 2007, Si Demain Vous déplaît 2009, Nothing Hurts 2010, Ivanov Re/mix 2010/2011, La Peur 2013,…
His last two creations are Rearview and Yukonstyle.
For the next season he already announced a new creation and a re-working of La Peur, which will be produced at the Théâtre les Tanneurs and performed at the Théâtre de Vanves afterwards, as well as a very personal and revisited version of Ondine by Jean Giraudoux.
